The 2017 Texas Book Festival was held the weekend of November 4-5th. The literary festival took place in the heart of Texas, Austin which turned the city into a special journey of connection for book lovers of all ages, fans, and authors

The 2017 Texas Book Festival was held the weekend of November 4-5th. The literary festival took place in the heart of Texas, Austin which turned the city into a special journey of connection for book lovers of all ages, fans, and authors. The weekend immersed everyone with knowledge, adventure, imagination, storytelling, panels, book signings, live music, local food trucks, children’s activities, vendors, and contests. Celebrity events showcased talented writers, for example; the amazing actor and Oscar winner “Tom Hanks” who introduced his book  ‘Uncommon Type: Some Stories’ as part of the most exciting exploration in the 2017 TBF.

The Texas Book Festival was founded in 1995 by” Laura Bush” (former First Lady of Texas and also a librarian), “Mary Margaret Farabee,” and a dedicated group of volunteers. The Festival has hosted thousands of notable and award-winning authors over the years, including Margaret Atwood, Robert Caro, Sandra Cisneros, Salman Rushdie, Cheryl Strayed, Walter Mosley, Molly Shannon, Frank McCourt, Ziggy Marley, Liz Carpenter, Doris Kearns Goodwin, and many others.

The 2017 Texas Book Festival highlighted the following authors: “Tom Hanks” with his book ‘Uncommon Type: Some Stories’,  “Dan Rather” ’s highly anticipated new book, What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism and the Bush sisters, “Jenna Bush Hager and Barbara Pierce Bush“. Jenna and Barbara gave the readers a behind the scenes look into their lives as part of their Sisters First Tour Sisters First.

The Texas Book Festival promotes authors and fosters a love of literature and writing and provides the general public access to an innumerable number of books as well as a meet and greet of the authors who are promoting their book.  The festival showcases Texas authors, but also host writers from all over the world and the Texas Book Festival is known as one of the most respected and distinguished Literary Festivals in the country. It’s very important to mention that the Texas Book Festival is free of charge thanks to the generous support of corporate sponsors, foundations, and individuals who believe in the power of reading to change lives by discovering the next book that would make a difference in your life.

The vision of the Texas Book Festival is to inspire Texans of all ages to love reading. The book festival in Austin welcome contributions to help produce the annual event and support literacy programs and grants to Texas public libraries. If you donate to the Texas Book Festival of $100 or more, the festival thanks you with a Festival Friend Pass that helps keep the festival free for all, which provides you priority seating and signing line access for you and a plus one guest to the venues and signings during the Festival. Help support libraries and literacy in Texas. The TBF partners with other nonprofits, cultural organizations, corporations, schools, and individuals to present quality programming to Texans. Since its founding, the TBF has donated nearly $3 million to Texas public libraries and donated more than 81,000 books to students in Title I schools through our Reading Rock Stars program.

The 2017 Texas Book Festival had a schedule that featured 300 renowned authors, panels, book signings, live music, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, and more.

The submissions for the 2018 Texas Book Festival will be available in starting in January from January 9th  through June 1st.  The Festival usually presents around 250 authors, from Texas and beyond, whose books are published in the year the Festival takes place and the authors who are invited to participate will be featured in a panel or solo session and book signing to promote the most talented of the authors. The genres of books that are considered at the Texas Festival are fiction, narrative nonfiction such as history, biography, memoir, and essays, graphic novels, cookbooks and food-related titles, poetry, children’s and YA literature, art and architecture titles, titles with a Texas focus, and titles written by Texas authors. The Texas Book Festival focuses on the promotion of literature and Texas literary culture but excludes books on the topics of self-improvement, how-to, or books strictly of academic or religious interest.

The 2017 Book Festival was fascinating, interesting and very appealing to all ages groups and featured a talented list of book’s authors that is worth purchasing; the personal experience of attending a book festival is indeed worthwhile since the changing world today could be a little overwhelming for some people. The book festival gives you direct access to the author’s expertise and helps to motivate the readers to increase their knowledge, curiosity, and vision of the chosen books and mainly the author’s mind by having a first-hand experience at the book festival.  We can’t wait for the 2018 Book Festival.
